Why Solar Suits Business Premises

Most businesses use the bulk of their electricity during the day, which is exactly when solar panels produce the most. That makes commercial solar an efficient way to cover a large share of daytime demand with your own generation.

Commercial solar suits offices, workshops, warehouses, farms, retail units and other premises with suitable roof space and steady daytime electricity use.

It is worth considering when energy is a significant overhead, when you are planning building or roof work, when you are adding electric vehicles or equipment, or when you want to reduce your exposure to energy price rises.

Commercial systems are larger and involve more planning around the building, electrical supply and business operations. Complete Solar Services Ltd brings 12 years of solar experience and 25 years in construction, is MCS certified and NAPIT registered, and carries £2m public liability insurance.

What Energy Costs Do to Your Business

For many businesses, electricity is a cost that keeps growing with no control over it.

Rising overheads

Every unit bought from the grid is a cost that eats into margin.

Exposure to price changes

Without your own generation, you absorb every price rise.

Poorly sized systems

A system designed without studying your usage underdelivers.

Disruption

An installation not planned around your operations can interrupt business.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Sizing a system without looking at actual usage patterns.
  • Ignoring roof condition before installing.
  • Not planning for future demand such as EV fleets.
  • Choosing an installer without commercial-scale planning.

Commercial Solar in Detail

Commercial projects differ from homes in several important ways.

Roof types

Commercial buildings often have metal profile, flat or large pitched roofs. Each needs a suitable mounting approach. We assess the roof's condition and structure before recommending a system.

Sizing around usage

A business system should be sized from how your premises actually uses electricity through the day and the week, so as much generation as possible is used on site.

Storage and EV charging

Battery storage can extend the benefit of solar beyond peak hours, and charging for business vehicles can be planned alongside the system. We primarily install Fox batteries and inverters.

Planning around operations

We discuss access, timing and any temporary isolation so installation fits around your business.

Residential versus commercial

Domestic systems are designed around evening household use, while commercial systems typically match daytime working hours. That changes how systems are sized and whether storage makes sense.

Farms and agricultural buildings

Agricultural buildings often have large roof areas and steady daytime demand from lighting, refrigeration and equipment. That combination can make them well suited to solar. Each site is assessed individually.

Maintaining a commercial system

Because commercial systems are larger, any underperformance costs more. Servicing, monitoring and fault finding can help identify performance issues; financial returns depend on the system and site. We offer maintenance, servicing and fault finding for commercial systems as well as installation.

Adding to an existing business system

If your premises already has solar, we can review it and advise on upgrades such as battery storage or inverter replacement.

What we need from you

To prepare an accurate proposal, it helps to share recent electricity bills or usage data, details of your opening hours, information about the roof, and any plans for growth such as new equipment or electric vehicles. The better we understand how your premises uses power, the better the system can be matched to it.

From there, we carry out a site assessment and give you an individual quote, with payment by bank transfer or credit/debit card.

Our Solar and Construction Experience

Complete Solar Services Ltd was set up by Sam Hayes about three years ago. Sam has 12 years specialising in solar and 25 years in the construction industry. Each commercial solar pv job needs assessment of the relevant roof and electrical requirements.

The business is MCS certified, TrustMark endorsed, RECC approved and NAPIT registered. MCS is the recognised standard for small-scale renewable installations in the UK. TrustMark is the government-endorsed quality scheme for work in and around the home. RECC is a consumer code for renewable energy, and NAPIT registration covers the electrical side. We also carry £2m public liability insurance.

We primarily work with Fox batteries and inverters. Each job is quoted individually, with a 2-year workmanship warranty on our work. Any additional faults or upgrade options should be assessed and included in the agreed scope before work proceeds. System suitability, the work involved and visit arrangements depend on your property.
